Consultant Neurologist in Sleep & Epilepsy

Giacomo is a highly specialised expert in both Sleep & Epilepsy. His NHS & Research post is at the Autonomic Unit of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square, UCLH NHS Trust.

He has specialized in the diagnosis and management of patients with the full range of sleep disorders, as well as neurodegenerative disorders (mostly alpha-synucleinopathies such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy, Lewy body dementia, pure autonomic failure), all-cause autonomic dysfunction (intermittent disorders such as syncopes, postural tachycardia syndrome, autonomic autoimmune ganglionopathies, autonomic failure in the context of alpha-synucleinopathies, diabetic autonomic neuropathy, and amyloidosis), epilepsy, as well as headache.

Dr Chiaro obtained his MD at the University of Bologna, Italy, and he trained in Neurology at the Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland in Lugano, Switzerland. He has two subspecialties in Sleep Medicine (European Sleep Research Society) and EEG (Swiss Society of Clinical Neurophysiology).

His current research activity focuses on autonomic failure and sleep disorders. He is currently following two clinical trials. The results of his research were published in peer-reviewed journals such as Brain, Nature, NPJ, and Sleep.
