Insomnia & Sleep Therapist
Heather Darwall-Smith is a practising mindfulness psychotherapist with a specific focus on sleep. She completed her MA at Middlesex University and is accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). She takes a combination approach to issues with sleep, melding mindfulness, psychotherapy, and CBTi to meet the client where they are. She also works with nightmares and PTSD, as well as sleep issues with ADHD. An essential part of her ongoing clinical research addresses the cyclical question; what comes first, poor sleep or poor mental health? Heather also provides Corporate Sleep and Stress Reduction Programs, using an evidence-based visual model that brings the benefits of therapy directly to people working in stressful environments.
Heather also holds a diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC). She has also completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT), and Trauma Assessment under Babette Rothschild. Heather is also a member of the British Sleep Society (BSS).
Recently, Heather has published The Science of Sleep (Dorling Kindersley), a collection of evidence-based answers to a multitude of questions about sleep. Heather regularly appears in the media, providing expert comment to sleep and psychotherapy issues and speaks on a range of podcasts and other platforms.Back
